Cawsands and Kingsands

Sun 26 Jun

There were a couple of unfathomable issues left over from yesterday. One by one each was ticked off the list – for example increase the engine revs in neutral gear or use the inverter to power high voltage equipment.

We are solely reliant on 12v batteries to power everything on board and the capacity holds 6 days of energy. Switching on the electric kettle and this dives to only 1 hour and 45 minutes. Interesting statistic and lesson learned.

The dinghy was launched and the crew completed a photo shoot of Liquid Asset in Cawsands Bay.

Shore party

A short dinghy trip and we arrived on the beach. We spent the next hour or so exploring the delightful seaside town, shoreline and everything in between – bakery, grocer, tavern and ice cream parlour.

Borderline

Cawsands and Kingsands sits on the border of Devon and Cornwall. It has a bakery that should sell bread and pastries. At 12 noon we ate their last two Cornish pasties and bought the last loaf of bread and “felt sorry for nobody”

It was time to leave the town of narrow streets. It is local knowledge that this maze once helped the smugglers escape from the Customs and Excise and perhaps that’s true.

Passage plan

On board again and a passage plan was meticulously prepared. Distance to destination 90 NM and Speed 6 kts so you can calculate the passage time. Chicken and anchovy salad and sourdough crusty brown bread for dinner on deck and an early night after listening to Mandolin Orange.

Editor’s note :- we will be departing early Monday and arriving late. Also WiFi reception in the remote island anchorage may be unavailable.

So until tomorrow’ “good night” zzzzz
