Y23:D3 Alderney

Old harbour

The Old Harbour is very picturesque and the fuel pump is located just inside the narrow entrance. Manoeuvring a 46 foot vessel through this entrance and then back into a tight corner was fraught with danger.  We need to find another ‘garage’…

Alderney is the most northerly island of the Channel Islands and is reached by a small ferry or plane from Guernsey. There is no public transport; however, you can book a taxi or travel by train! Walking is popular, and we strolled up a steep path from the harbour to the main (only) town, Saint Anne.

We walked through narrow streets and chatted with the locals. The town seems to be closed for lunch from 12:00 – 14:30 hence we missed a visit to the museum, library, and many other visitor attractions. Such a shame.

Seafood bap and chips

We were consoled by finding the best restaurant in town – The Blonde Hedgehog restaurant (click here)

A ‘hidden gem’ that offered excellent value, a fine menu, a comfortable room and attractive gardens.

Almost hidden under the pontoon

Back on board, we fixed some stuff, planned tomorrow’s hunt for a fuel pump, relaxed and ate a fine cottage pie. The sound of oyster catchers filled the air. (The French accordionist had departed)
