07:00 We raised anchor and motored downstream towards the open seas. After leaving such a peaceful setting, nothing prepares you for what’s around the corner.
Cruise ship Mylor marina
We were wondering how much you pay to be a passenger on a deluxe 10-level cruise liner and to be dropped off in Falmouth on a Sunday morning. Perhaps we are missing a trick, and we must visit Mylor on our next visit!
It’s never easy making the decision to head homeward however today’s sea state and favourable southerlies were our best opportunity to sail east before the weather closed in. We had perfect conditions to sail a beam reach, and we watched the huge squall clouds from a distance.
Horn blasts
Winds are drawn up into these massive clouds, which, from a distance, give us steady winds for heading east. As long as they stay out West.
Distant squall clouds
It’s perhaps worth noting that when five yachts leave harbour together and are heading in the same direction, a sort of race develops. You’ll be pleased to learn that Liquid Asset performed very well. Speed 9kts logged.
Beam reach sailing
The passage of 35 NM should take about 6 hours. After 5 hours of steady southerlies, several smaller squalls came our way, and they stole the wind. We had to motor the last few miles to Cawsand Bay. Then the heavens opened, and rain cleaned away all the sea salt from our decks. We were safely at anchor.
Route
The squalls had gone and blue sky provided a warm afternoon through to evening. R&R until the sun sets.
Cooking on board relies on two LPG rings and a small oven. Therefore most dishes are prepared using one pan. Additional dishes are prepared in advance ( Thanks Annie ) and stored in the freezer. The stove rests on gimbals and rocks back and forth when sailing.
