The anchorage lies between the islands of Tresco and Bryher, and looks out towards St Mary’s. The rocky foreshore and bracken covered slopes are home to a plethora of birds. Oyster catchers and gulls compete with each other, and cormorants fly past like low flying jets on a mission. It is time to go ashore and explore the island.

Arriving at low water meant the beach was exposed and so we had to carry the dinghy right to the high water tide line and attach the painter to a pole. Better safe than sorry.
We set off to cross the island. The pace had slowed down from choppy seas and high winds to gentle sloping paths and the sweet scent of wild flowers.

The Ruin Beach Cafe sits by a beach of golden sands and looks out over the turquoise water towards St Helen’s. We have landed.

We all share moments when you want time to slow down. And just sitting high up on Tommy’s Hill, looking across the bay and wondering at the beauty of Nature. It is that time.

Next stop, a bird hide to sit, wait and watch. Two mallard ducks, two swans and lastly two oyster catchers flew over the surface. Time to return back to our mother ship.
And to our delight, the tide had risen and was just lapping the side of our dinghy. It’s all in the forward planning. A day well spent exploring this beautiful place.
